“Green spaces and fields are the beating heart of any community.  Fields provide a safe place for team sports, for talent to be nurtured, for confidence to be built and for your children and teenagers to let off steam.  Playing fields are not a luxury; they are a vital component of any healthy and happy community”. Duke of Cambridge,  Patron of The Queen Elizabeth II Fields Challenge.

2017 has been a successful year for The Friends of Hopwood Park.  We would like to thank everyone who has supported us in our endeavour to improve Hopwood Park and look back at some of our highlights:-

June – a new picnic area and was installed which also improved wheelchair access around Hopwood Cabin.

July - Hopwood Park receives first Green Flag Award

September - for the first time, we entered a float into Heywood Charities Fete Parade.

October - Hopwood Park receive Silver Gilt Medal Award at the North West in Bloom Awards in Southport.  (Pic 4)

November - we were delighted to be invited to take part in this year’s Heywood X-mas Lights Switch-on Parade.

Last but not least, we now look forward to the completion of the bus shelter renovation which we expect to be mid-2018, the name of which, after much thought and discussion will be:-

“The Tree House Cafe at Hopwood”

Thank you to everyone who has helped along the way. The improvements we see have not only benefited our local environment, but have also built a stronger community spirit within Hopwood. We hope this community spirit will continue to flourish now we have a pleasant, outdoor space where friends, families, young and old can spend time in recreation, socialising, relaxing and meeting new friends.

With many thanks and best wishes for 2018 from all at The Friends of Hopwood Park.
